Some species go extinct and others survive because species’ abilities to adapt to environmental changes differ, driven by natural selection. Species with traits suited to new conditions are more likely to survive, reproduce, and pass on their genes, while those unable to adapt face decline and extinction. Factors like habitat loss, competition, disease, natural disasters, and human activities all impact a species’ chances of survival and can accelerate the extinction process.
